An internship was organized for the Psychology students in the school campus in collaboration with Cognizavest which aimed to provide students with an understanding of various psychological practices, including mindfulness and art therapy, and to explore the broader scope of Psychology.
Initially, the facilitator provided an overview of various branches, including clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, sports and health psychology and parapsychology. Various discussions were done around these topics.
The facilitator also explained the principles of art therapy and its benefits to the students. Students were prompted to create some specific artworks in groups. After the creative session, participants shared their artworks and discussed the emotions and thoughts they experienced during the process. The facilitator helped participants reflect on how the activity allowed them to express feelings that might be difficult to articulate verbally.
After this, students were guided through a mindfulness meditation exercise wherein they were asked to sit comfortably with their eyes closed and focus on their breath. They practiced deep breathing, in which the facilitator guided them through a body scan, along with some calming music. After the meditation session, students shared their experiences and feelings. Students found the activity to be a powerful way to access and process emotions.
Overall the session was a very enriching and enlightening one. The students were awarded certificates after the completion of the internship.
